Well, not anymore, but at one time I was!
First off, our sincerest apologies for the lack of weeklies. The name would imply that we would post new things, you know, weekly, but sadly with work, vacations and all those other fun 'real life' things, we've been slacking! Our last few weeklies (again, I know, poorly named) haven't generated a whole lot of posts, so perhaps this one can get something going.
What was the noobest thing you ever did when you first started playing an MMO? And I don't mean you attacked the wrong mobs or chose the wrong character structure, I mean something really fundamentally just wrong in an MMO. I shall start with an example!
My very first MMO was AC1, just after the defeat of Bael'Zharon and the Virindi moving into AB (though I didn't know what a Virindi was or where/what AB was ). I remember running amonck on my dagger fighter in some random town, don't remember which one, checking chests and talking to NPCs in their houses. Not quest NPCs mind you, nor did any of these chests have anything in them. I just went from house to house, checking chests and talking to NPCs. Why the hell would I do that? Because thats what you did in normal RPGs. You go into random people's houses and take their stuff. Sometimes those NPC's told you something useful about your quest, sometimes they didn't. Well, in AC1, those NPCs didn't tell me a damn thing, and every chest was empty, and yet I kept running from house to house checking them. They were there, so they must have a purpose! I'll find some money, or a sweet sword in one of these chests if I just keep looking!
I obviously hadn't quite figured out this whole "MMO" thing yet
So that's my uber-noob moment. Please, share yours and then we can play on the short bus together.
